Destroy The Icon: Even More Iterations

Image
Here are some more iterations using, lace, lips, and a camera image.

Destroy The Icon: More Iterations

Image
After meeting with Prof. Ed, I have gone a bit wild on iterations, trying to let go of my need for perfection and instead focus on making several iterations quickly, documenting my explorations, and "destroying" the icon more. For these iterations I tried to make a mashup of Marilyn Monroe and Marilyn Manson, two different Marilyns in Hollywood.

Destroy The Icon: Some Different Iterations

Image
After and while watching this week's lectures, I played around with my Marilyn image and created a couple copies.   For this first image I masked out the background to isolate Marilyn.  Then I found an image of white doves, created a pattern from them and added them in front of and behind Marilyn.  After that, I found an image of sky with clouds and added that as a background.  I changed up the color from blue to pink. For this image, I used a blending mode to emphasize Marilyn.  Then I found two images, one of a galaxy and one of a starry sky and added them to the image, using masking to confine them to Marilyn. It has been fun to play around with the settings of Photoshop without a lot of pressure!

Destroy The Icon: After Lecture 6

Image
After watching Lecture 6, I went to Bing in search of an image of Marilyn Monroe in the correct size.  I was fortunate to find my image in the correct dimensions and then saved it as a PhotoShop file, duplicated it, and saved the copy as a JPEG for screens.

Destroy The Icon: Find an Icon

Image
I had a difficult time with this portion of the project, not finding an interesting iconic image, but choosing from the plethora of cool artworks and photographs.  My final two choices are this photograph of Marilyn Monroe and a pop art piece by Roy Lichtenstein (see below).  Hopefully after watching the Monday lectures, I will have a better idea about which piece I should use.

Fantasy Appliance: Final

Image
Finished the final version of my Fantasy Appliance!  I have not changed anything from the last post, I decided to keep the white outlines for some extra contrast.  It turned out good in my opinion, the textures and contrast work well.  If I had more time, I would have liked to add another hummingbird in the process of being caught by this fantasy carnivorous oil-plant.

Fantasy Appliance: Almost Done!

Image
Almost finished with my Fantasy Appliance!  I am still not convinced that the white outline around the hummingbird and oil container is the best, but I will continue thinking about it and editing it.

Fantasy Appliance: Progress

Image
In this moment of progress, I've added a lot of the elements from my thumbnail sketch.  Basically, I only need to add a background, which will probably be a cloud texture, and work on the colors so that there is more contrast between the vines and the hummingbird/oil container.

Progress - Colored my flower, it still needs some cleaning up but it is mostly done.  I've begun adding a hummingbird, which will be sipping from the flower-spout.

I have finished coloring my oil container and have begun adding the other elements.  You can see a flower at the spout of the oil container, I also have a hummingbird image to include.
